Holocaust Remembrance (Yom Hashoa) - My Beautiful Mother - Human Rights - Thank G-D for Canada - How Our Elected Representatives Should Act for the Least of Us

MY PERSONAL CHANUKAH “ MIRACLE” from the CONCENTRATION CAMP

Sheindel, born Zenny Weissner, was a member of the Winnipeg’s Jewish Community.
Listening to CBC Radio, She heard the announcer invite listeners to send in stories about ”miracles” that happened to them during the Chanukah-Christmas season. Sheindel was inspired to write the following story.  Although the events in it take place after Chanukah, the conclusion is a Chanukah-style miracle.

By SHEINDEL

In May of 1944, among all the Jews deported from Hungary, were my dear parents, four brothers, and three sisters.  We were deported to Auschwitz, and I and my two sisters were separated, by the Nazis from the rest of the family, because we were young and could work.

We were sent out in a group of 2,000 Jewish girls from Auschwitz concentration camp in Germany to work in munitions factories.  We were worked inhumanely hard until January 1945.

Then the bombings started.  The Russians and Americans bombed the munitions factories with us together.  From 2,000 girls, 180 remained alive.

After that, we could not work anymore, so the chief of the Lager Fuehrer, as he was called in German, and the rest of his officers, told us that we have to start walking with them.

It was still the month of January.  We had wooden shoes and some coats, which very quickly became heavily drenched with rain and snow.  While walking, I lost my wooden shoes and so did the other girls.

We walked barefoot in the snow from early morning until night, and then we were put private barns where we slept on hay and straw.

-->
WE HAD WOODEN SHOES AND SOME COATS, WHICH VERY QUICKLY BECAME HEAVILY DRENCHED WITH RAIN AND SNOW.  WHILE WALKING, I LOST MY WOODEN SHOES AND SO DID THE OTHER GIRLS.

The owner of the barn would cook potatoes in a boiler.  Each girl was given 2 potatoes, which had to last her 24 hours.

Every morning, we started to walk again with the group.  This went on for long weeks and months.  Our feet became very swollen, blistered and infected without the wooden shoes.  Most of the girls could not walk anymore, so they sat down on both sides of the road and these girls were left behind.

The chief, who walked way behind everybody, shot these girls when he caught up to them and saw them sitting down.  One afternoon, I felt that my feet were so painfully full of blisters, blood and pus, that I could not go on walking.  My feet were burning as if they were on fire.

NO CHOICE

I told my two little sisters that I had to remain behind.  They cried, but I had no choice.  As much as I wanted to live, I was in pain and very weak, and I had to sit down full of fear for my life from the Lager Fuehrer.

It was raining terribly, but I sat on the side of the boulevard where the water was running down.  I put my inflamed feet, and it was a heavenly relief for me.  But I knew that death was minutes away because the Nazi was coming closer and closer, checking who was lying or sitting down.

He was almost at my back.  I stood up.  I knew he was going to shoot me, and as much as I loved life, in that dark moment I wished it all be over with.

So I asked him “Please Lager Fueher, shoot me down.”  I cried and pleaded with him ”Please shoot me down.”  He looked at me and said, “I will not waste a bullet on you, you rotting Jew, but I will beat you to death.”  It was raining terribly, and it was already late in the afternoon.

He carried a hard elastic club and he hit me in the head with it three times, counting “one, two, three.”  At that point, I lost consciousness and fell down.

Behind the Nazi who beat me in the head was a German soldier with a death wagon.  He threw all the dead bodies on that wagon.  He thought I was dead, so he threw me on the wagon, with all the dead bodies together.  I was there till noon the next day as a dead person.

The next thing I remember was opening my eyes against bright sunshine, and noticing flies.  I did not know whether I was alive or dead or dreaming.

I dragged myself towards the soldier who was sitting at the front, near the horse.  Seeing me, he shook with fear:  “Are you alive?”  he asked, and I asked him, “Are you alive?”  My memory lapsed.  I did not know what I was doing here.

He drove for a while and stopped at the first house.  The soldier went in, and in a little while, a man and a woman came out bringing me warm milk mixed with tea and sugar, bread, carrots and pieces of cake.  I drank and felt a little better.  But I could not eat, I was too weak.

SOME FRIENDS SAVED

The houses were far from one another, but he went into every house and everyone came out and brought me warm milk to drink and food.  I drank the milk, but all the food I was given, I put in the lining of my coat, and I felt so much better.

I cried to the soldier to take me to my group of girls amongst who were my two younger sisters.

He was not sure he knew the right location.  Fortunately, we got there about 24 hours later.

--> IT IS A MIRACLE THAT IN NAZI GERMANY, SO FULL OF HATRED, THERE WERE A NUMBER OF WONDERFUL GERMAN CIVILIAN PEOPLE WHO DID SO MUCH FOR THE REJECTED AND DOWN- TRODDEN JEWISH PEOPLE

The girls were all in a barn.  The owner opened the barn door and I saw my two sisters and 45 girls of my hometown.  That is all that was left of the 2,000.

I treated them all equally to the food I emptied from my coat lining.  They were sitting on the floor too weak to talk, but the tears of happiness streamed down their cheeks.

Two days later, in the morning on May 8, 1945, the barn doors opened.  A man with a white armband walked in and thundered out.  “You are free, you are free!  Remain sitting and we will help you.  ”We saw a Russian tank and a soldier on top facing us.  Even though I was never compensated for the loss of my most dear and wonderful parents and entire family I had that was mine, deep in my heart, I will always mourn them. beside my lost time and my lost health from which I still suffer terribly.  To this day, I can hardly walk because of my back and my knees from being forced to walk long months in the snow and slush and rain with no wooden shoes, and because of my shoulder from working in munitions factories and getting injured from throwing big blocks up from the main to the 7th floor in the camp for repair after being bombed down.

When I was on the 7th floor, I was very weak and dizzy, so I fell down from the 7th floor to the 6th floor steel frame and which fractured my knee and my back.  One of the wonderful SS ladies told me not to go to the hospital from the camp, or I would be sent to the crematorium.  Somehow I managed to appear as though I was working.  I will always remember the kindness and compassion of these few German civilians, who at the risk of their own lives did all to save ours.  It is a miracle that in Nazi Germany, so full of hatred, there were a number of wonderful German people who did so much for the rejected and downtrodden Jewish people.

It is because of our Dear G-D and the German civilian people that I found myself in this wonderful land of Canada.

Subject: The Greatest Tribute and Meaning to Honour Ashley Smith’s Life and Death - The case of the Living Ashley Smith From Newfoundland and Labrador. Will we help to save him or not?

The Greatest Tribute and Meaning to Honour Ashley Smith’s Life and Death

Directed to the Coroner’s Inquiry (for Ashley Smith), Governments, Institutions, Professionals, Protection Agencies and those of us members of the public focused on all the living “Ashley Smiths” and SAVING THEM NOW.   A case in point is a young boy that shall be called the Living Ashley Smith from Newfoundland and Labrador sent to Ontario.  Will this Ashley Smith be saved by us or was the death of Ashley Smith of New Brunswick who died in Ontario meaningless?

Ashley Smith of New Brunswick did not survive the physical abuse, mental abuse, emotional abuse, repeated indignity, and human rights abuses.  This child, whose life was filled with horrible torment, is dead.  We all have a responsibility for this child in our Canadian families.   This happy, sensitive, carefree child had many doctors, lawyers, judges, police, and social workers in her life; they were supposed to be helping her. Where were they when she needed them the most?  As a result, there is a Coroner’s Inquest into her death now in Toronto.  Why were her cries for help repeatedly ignored? Where was her protection? Who is accountable?  This is heart breaking and there is much darkness here.

We need more light

There is a boy who still struggles to survive.  He is currently a ward of the Province of Newfoundland/Labrador and he had been in hospital after being sexually abused.  An employee of the hospital called the boy’s father to ask him if it was okay to send Ashley Smith to a hotel, rather than returning him to the place where the abuse took place.  The child after the alleged abuse took place gathered his courage and went to the police.   This boy complained that his human rights were being violated and that he was not being listened to.

Child Protect Canada wrote to The Child Advocate of Newfoundland/Labrador Carol Chafe to Investigate on behalf of this child.  Child Protect Canada also wrote to the Advocate regarding the whistle blower who brought forward documentation that this child and other children’s Human Rights were being violated.  Child Protect Canada asked Carol Chafe to “ACT AS IF A CHILD’S LIFE DEPENDS ON IT’.   Carol Chafe wrote back “I will look into it”.   Child Protect Canada has an original copy of this email.  Someone from Child Advocates Office did go to see the victim at the hotel after this email had been sent to them. That was more than a year ago.

There was a meeting towards the end of 2012 between Carol Chafe, Lorraine Michael (the leader of the New Democratic Party of Newfoundland/Labrador Legislature), the allegedly victimized Whistle blower who fought for years to bring forward documented allegations of the terrible violations of the human rights of children in Newfoundland/Labrador, the father of the Living Ashley Smith, and Roxanne Pottle from The Child Advocate Office.  The father is quoted as saying at this meeting regarding his son “My son is the dirty little secret that no one wants to talk about.”  At this meeting it also reported that Carol Chafe said “ I don’t know about this case.”

This is the email to Carol Chafe-Child and Youth Advocate for Newfoundland /Labrador.

April 18, 2011

Why did Roxanne Pottle telephone the whistle blower before this meeting asking that she be met with instead of The Child Advocate?  The whistle blower refused.  Why did Roxanne Pottle call the father of the boy, as reported to Child Protect Canada, asking him to meet with her instead of the Child Advocate?  The father refused indicating he would be going to the meeting with the Advocate.  Did Roxanne Pottle pass by this invitation to Lorraine Michael, The leader Of the NDP in the Newfoundland/Labrador Legislature, to a meeting just with herself?   Why did Roxanne Pottle call the boy, as reported to Child Protect Canada, to ask him how he is and promise him “I will do everything in my power to get you home”? This is so dark. We need a lot of light here.

The Child Advocates Office was notified by Child Protect Canada about this boy over a year ago.  They also knew of him and others for many years, as the whistle blower had brought the information forward.  Why promise Ashley Smith now that he will be brought home?  Is it because a reporter from the Globe and Mail is asking questions about the boy?  This promise made to the boy was made months ago and yet nothing has happened.  Is this about the boy or about Roxanne Pottle?  Where is the written report for this Investigation?  Why wasn’t the father given a report about this investigation? Who came to visit the boy from the Child Advocates Office over a year ago after he had been released from the Hospital and was placed in the hotel?  How did she know and from whom did this person get her instructions?  Where is that report?  What was the doctor told about this Boy? Why did the doctor allegedly keep badgering Ashley Smithyou are lying, you are lying”?

Was this boy’s ideation of harming himself a threat to get attention, as New Brunswick’s Ashley Smith had done?  Child Protect Canada believes that Ashley Smith of New Brunswick did not want to hurt herself but that her behavior was her attempt at asking to be paid attention to - her cry for help in her nightmarish existence. Child Protect Canada believes that this boy is crying for help also.

Did the boy’s doctor who allegedly said to him repeatedly “you are lying, you are lying…” interview and investigate the alleged sexual abuser in this case?  Did the doctor investigate and interview anyone else who might, allegedly, have been attacked by this person?

This was a criminal human rights case. Was this doctor part of the healing process for this boy or part of the violations of his human rights at least under the UN Charter of Protection of the Child?

The child had a right to legal counsel as he brought, as a victim, criminal allegations that he was sexually abused.  Did the doctor have an obligation to see the report of the thorough investigation of the alleged abuser?  Did the doctor have an obligation to see the thorough investigation of the history of the alleged sexual abuser and what other people had to say who, allegedly, may have brought similar accusations, like that, of the Living Ashley Smith, about the alleged abuser?  Is this process that allegedly violated the boy’s human rights, by this doctor and other professionals around him, left the door open for future victims to be victimized because the alleged abuser’s history and other alleged allegations of the abuser were not allegedly investigated thoroughly?

Did the doctor understand that maybe the boy had a human right to legal representation in any dealings with him?   Did the doctor understand that he may have been obstructing justice when he hurled accusations at the boy, allegedly, repeating, “you are lying, you are lying…”?  In addition Child Protect Canada feels the doctor, allegedly, with his repeated actions, was victimizing the boy again and again.  Did this doctor sign a Mental Health Certificate, acting as Judge and Jury, and sent this boy with no criminal record to a locked institution, out of province where it is reported the people in this institution for the most part have a criminal record?

Is this doctor brainwashed? Is he thinking to himself that he is doing good and helping the boy and society?   To act in such a way is horrible; in our opinion he is allegedly doing a great injustice and his actions are of great harm to the boy. He is a doctor!  How can that be?  Justice depends on him to do the right thing.  Shouldn’t he be accountable for his actions here?  Should privacy trump Justice or Injustice?  How prevalent is this kind brainwashing where doctors act, allegedly, not on the facts but on baseless and untrue information?

Child Protect Canada believes that this alleged brainwashing, as seen in this case of the doctor from Newfoundland/Labrador, is quite common in our society and is a source of great harm and we as a society must bring attention and a mindfulness to educate and change this behavior.  This endemic behavior must be highlighted by all of us so accountability can be brought into the equation and learning can happen so this behavior, that is a source of great harm and enormous misspending and misdirecting of Canadian’s taxes and health tax dollars, is changed.

Child Protect Canada is asking:  Who is running the Child Advocate Office of Newfoundland and Labrador?  Child Protect Canada is alleging that The Child Advocate Office of Newfoundland/Labrador is very dysfunctional and needs to be investigated and changed quickly so that its mandate of protecting the Children of Newfoundland and Labrador is clearly seen and its actions are transparent.  Very sadly that is not True now at all. The Dunderdale Government must bring True Accountability here in its investigations so this kind of behavior by anyone does not happen again.  The Children and People of Newfoundland Labrador and Canada deserve better from their elected officials to route out this kind of behavior.

This is the same question that Darlene Neville, the Previous Child Advocate, seems to be asking in her Superior Court Case filings and what has been going on in Newfoundland/Labrador and what has been happening to our Canadian children there.  Please Google Darlene Neville and check out the court documents and Darlene Neville’s fight to Bring accountability from Eastern Health to Child Protection in Newfoundland/Labrador.  Please note Darlene Neville’s allegations against Roxanne Pottle in her filings in the Superior Court Documents.

The Living Ashley Smith requested from the Eastern Health social worker that his father be present at the police meeting.  It is alleged the social worker stopped the father from being at the meeting. The father said to Child Protect Canada “she said there wasn’t enough room for me in the meeting”.  The father says “there were maybe five people in all the police station that he could see at that time.”

It was reported to Child protect Canada that the boy had ideation of harming himself.  Does this remind you of Ashley Smith of New Brunswick who died in Ontario?  The boy’s human rights were violated and he was not listened to.  The boy stated to his father that He wants a different doctor because the one that was appointed to him  (allegedly by his social worker from Eastern Health) keeps telling him that ”you are lying, you are lying…” it is very deeply upsetting to the Living Ashley Smith that the doctor keeps doing that. He also told his father that it is frightening that the person who sexually abused him is allowed to be around him.

The Living Ashley Smith was lied to.    He was told that he could go to a nice place to ride horses and go fishing.  Therefore, He agreed to go.
Instead he was sent to a locked Institution in the Province to Ontario.
The boy told his father that he was frightened to be in this place because some young people at the institution pushed him down the stairs and then one of the people who was guarding him pinned him down as he lay on the floor.   Another time the boy related to his father that for a big stretch of time many police cars came to the institution because of police troubles there.  This is so heartbreaking.  There is so much darkness here.

We need more light

The greatest tribute to Ashley Smith is to help all the Children in Canada whose cry for help can be heard now.

Child Protect Canada believes that Healing and Change can come by setting up Truth and Reconciliation bodies for all these children and the professionals and institutions involved in their lives.  In this way endemic institutional behavior can change and we can become a healed, gentler and kinder society.
